What ads might looks like in the Perplexity Comet browser
Digital advertising's next disruption may be here, and it's not what you think.
Perplexity just launched Comet - a browser that could fundamentally change how we experience the internet.
What are the key features of the Perplexity Comet browser?
Transforms web search with built-in AI capabilities
It may have Chrome-rivaling performance
Integrates Perplexity's advanced search features
What does Aravind Srinivas say about the Perplexity Comet browser?
Perplexity's CEO Aravind Srinivas just revealed that Comet will proactively filter content, including ads, based on user preferences. His exact words:
"Maybe when you go to a shopping site, I can remove a lot of the spam for you... remove all the junk away from the sites and render the page the way you want to see it."
Think about it: The internet has run on advertising revenue for decades. Now, an AI player is positioning its browser as an ad-free experience.
What does the Comet browser mean for digital advertising?
This is more than an ad blocker. It's a fundamental shift in how users will interact with online content. But it doesn't mean there will be NO advertising. In my experience, a CEO doesn't drop a major hint like that without having a different or better idea in mind.
Some possibilities:
ads personalized to a user's browsing activity, created by and targeted with AI
advertising that isn't targeted based on keywords, but on intent and behavior
I'm excited to see what Perplexity comes up with.
