More AI Ads Are Coming, and They’re Not Going Away

While the ad industry gave out Cannes Lions awards last week, AI-generated ads were back in the news. And - news flash! - they're not going away.

The Kalshi Ad Pushes Boundaries

What Kalshi - a company I had never heard of before - and PJ Accetturo were able to do in a few days and few thousand dollars is extraordinary. Watch the ad below.

Kalshi’s AI-generated TV spot

Is this fully AI-generated ad perfect? No.

Is it leagues ahead of what PJ Pereira and Silverside AI did just six months ago with Coca-Cola's AI holiday ad? Absolutely.

(Side note: What a weird coincidence that two creatives named PJ have created attention-grabbing AI ads.)

The Data Behind the Trend

Last August, I partnered with IAB to conduct groundbreaking research comparing how digitally native consumers felt about AI-generated ads. At the time, less than half of Gen Z and Millennial respondents said they felt positive about them. They were less likely than ad industry execs to feel that the brands behind the ads were innovative, forward-thinking or tech-savvy. And more likely to consider the brands inauthentic or unethical.

It's been nearly a year since we conducted the IAB study, and I believe if we did it again today, consumer attitudes will be more positive.. More people use AI in their personal lives, more are familiar with it, and they're getting used to seeing it in creative settings.

Creatives may not love what Kalshi did, but the ball has started rolling. More AI-generated ads are coming. And thanks to PJ Accetturo, you can learn exactly how to do it: He describes in detail how he created the ad in a post on X.
